Debit Mastercard

  • Our Debit Mastercard has been introduced by the Credit Union for the convenience of members and can be used at point of sale locations here in Barbados and overseas, as well as online.

    To order a debit Mastercard, complete an online application. It’s easy and takes less than five minutes.

  • Upon receipt of your debit Mastercard, you will also find step-by-step correspondence inside your envelope that will guide you through the activation process.

    Just follow the automated prompts to activate and PIN your card. Please do not end the call util your PIN has been registered.

    The system will automatically seek to verify the information you enter with the information on your account, so it is important that the information in the system is accurate and up to date.

    When asked to enter your credit card number, you should enter your debit Mastercard number.

  • Yes, you must apply for your Debit Mastercard if it has not yet been issued. As a new member, you can apply for membership and your debit Mastercard during your initial application process.

  • No. There are no annual fees associated with your new AffinityPlus Debit Mastercard.

  • Immediately. Your card will be functional immediately after activation.

  • No. Only your Savings (S0) will be linked to your Debit Mastercard, and so you must select “Savings” at Point of Sales or ATMs.

    Members are therefore encouraged to sign up and utilize our Online Banking and Mobile Banking App to transfer funds from their AffinityPlus Account to their Savings (S0) whenever needed.

  • Cards were generated for all accounts with active SMARTCARD ATM cards, so if you recently updated your Account information, then a Debit Mastercard will be mailed to you.

  • No. Your Debit Mastercard utilizes your own funds for transactions. However, it has many of the same capabilities as a Credit Card, such as the ability to be used online and worldwide and increased security features.

  • Immediately contact the Credit Union and complete a Dispute Form in the branch or online.

    Create a habit of checking your Account transactions via your Online Banking as this will ensure you can report any discrepancies as soon as possible.

  • If your Debit Mastercard has been blocked or flagged, a representative of the Credit Union will be in contact to confirm whether that transaction is legitimate.

    Please ensure that your contact details are up to date to avoid delays in such a process. Once verified, the transaction will be unblocked.

  • Yes, because the cost of transacting business via Mastercard is different from that of CariFS, there will be a change in transaction fees.

    • Fees associated with cash withdrawals while traveling would be calculated by those individual banks.

    • Local Point of Sale transactions (swiping your card for purchases) are FREE of cost.

    • Cash Withdrawals at ATMs and Balance Inquiries will incur a BDS $3.00 charge.

    • Shopping online incurs the 2% Foreign Exchange Fee instituted by the Government and regulated by the Central Bank

    • All fees and charges are subject to change.

  • The person with whom you live, and who pays the bills, may complete an additional form (available in branch or via memberexperience@affinityplusbb.com), which would confirm that you live with them they will also need to produce their ID and proof of address.

    A letter from an educational institution, or letter from another institution bearing the name of the individual, is also acceptable.

  • You may use a bank statement or statement from another financial institution, no less than 3 months old.

  • Students may put $1.00 in this field.

  • You can put an expiration date of any year after date of issue, e.g. 2055.

  • The Debit Mastercard issued by AffinityPlus Credit Union has many advantages. As a valued member and Debit Mastercard holder, you will enjoy enhanced transaction security, convenience, control and a host of premier benefits.

    Some of these benefits include using the card at ATMs and point-of-sale locations island-wide and anywhere in the world. The debit Mastercard can also be used to shop online.

    Other benefits include enhanced Chip & PIN Technology, which allows you to use your card by inputting your PIN code as an added security element, and FREE local Point of Sale transactions.   • Yes, the new Debit Mastercard would replace the current ATM card. Credit Unions and many other financial institutions that utilize ATM cards have sought to implement either a VISA Debit Card or a Mastercard Debit Card to ensure that their clients can still have easy access to their funds.

  • We understand that this process can be tedious; however, the reason for this is twofold. As per our regulators, the Financial Services Commission (FSC), and guided by our Legal & Compliance Department, if you have not updated your information after August 2020, you will be required to do so now.

    The information is also needed for card mailing purposes, as confirmation of your address, so that your card arrives safely and to its correct address. Our request to update this information before we mail out the card is also in keeping with practices at other financial institutions.
