The AffinityPlus Credit Union’s SMARTYouth Leader's Club (SYLC) has been created for senior students and young adults between the ages of 16 to 25.

As a credit union of choice who cares about our members at every stage of their life, we want to help our young members best navigate the world of finance and credit unionism, as well as develop valuable key life skills, so they can best leverage opportunities, and lead successful and productive lives.

Why Join?

SYLC is free for members and provides opportunities for educational forums, networking as well as greater youth engagement and feedback. This will allow club members to:

  • Improve their financial literacy and build their financial skills

  • Discuss and provide more context on financial topics important to them

  • Collaborate and share new ideas that can enhance the Credit Union and influence new products that can help other young members

  • Develop leadership, entrepreneurial and other valuable life skills

  • Become active participants and volunteers in our Credit Union

Who Can Join?

Any young person between the ages of 16 to 25 can sign up to be part of SYLC. Club members are invited to refer other individuals to the SYLC program. To sign up complete our membership form.

Meet Our President & Vice-President

President

Hi, my name is Azana Garvey, and I feel overjoyed to be a member and the first president of the SMARTYouth Leaders Club. Currently, I am a UWI student majoring in Electronics and Physics. Alongside my studies, I also tutor CSEC Physics. However, my interests are not just limited to the world of technology and science. I take pleasure in participating in programs that help shape and empower the youth, making them well-rounded individuals who are essential for Barbados and the world.

During my secondary school days, I served as a Peer Supporter for six years, and now, I'm volunteering as a Peer Mentor at the University. I'm thrilled about this opportunity to kick-start a bigger project to positively impact the youth.

Vice-President

Hello, my name is André Hurdle, and I am honoured to be the first Vice-President of SYLC. I'm a second-year UWI student majoring in Economics. I studied at Alexandra School from 1st to 5th form, where I participated in table tennis, bodybuilding, and my favourite, Sea Scouts. Later, I moved to The St. Michael School for 6th form.

I'm passionate about learning, self-development, and helping others. After attending SYLC's inaugural meeting, I realized I found a place where I could grow, learn, and assist others in financial management. My goal in SYLC is to improve my financial skills and understanding, to assist our members in enhancing their financial skills, and to generate new ideas to enhance the Credit Union.
